The Physics Paradigm: Everything is a Time Derivative

The fundamental breakthrough of system-level modeling is that you do not need to hardcode thousands of specific domain formulas. Every physical system in the universe—from a simple windmill generator to a complex multi-loop nuclear reactor cooling system—shares the exact same mathematical structure: state variables changing over time.

How does SimForge represent a physical system? Instead of hardcoding custom simulation routines, you define your system as a set of State Variables (y) and their Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) expressing dy/dt. For example, a windmill is simulated by setting states for rotor speed (omega) and generator temperature (T). The torque equations drive d(omega)/dt, while current resistance drives dT/dt. SimForge's mathematical solver integrates these equations step-by-step over time. By modeling with derivatives, the same numerical engine can simulate: • Windmill turbogenerator loops under variable gusts. • EV powertrains subject to driving cycles. • High-pressure nuclear cooling loops where water density, temperature, and pump speed interact.
